Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation (LCEF) has helped more than 1,000 schools across the country create reading gardens, build playgrounds and implement other improvement projects that help strengthen their schools and their communities. Below are some of these winning schools’ stories.
In August 2005, Hurricane Katrina flood waters devastated Edward Hynes Elementary in Lakeview, Louisiana – forcing it to close. The school has since reopened and recently, the first grade class used a Toolbox for Education grant to build a “Rebirth Garden.” The garden is used as an outdoor science classroom, a peaceful retreat and community gathering place – enjoyed by students and adults alike. |
